API Terms of Use

1. Acceptance

By requesting, receiving or using a Power Expert India API key, you agree to these terms and any applicable client plan, order form or written agreement. A person using the API for an organisation confirms that they are authorised to accept these terms for that organisation.

2. The API service

The API provides approved tariff information, category metadata, public source traceability and deterministic base-tariff calculations for released states and financial periods.

3. API keys and client responsibility

• API keys are confidential credentials and must be stored securely.
• Keys may be sent only through supported request headers.
• Keys must not appear in URLs, public repositories, client-side code, screenshots or support messages.
• You are responsible for activity performed using your key until it is disabled or revoked.
• Request rotation or revocation promptly after suspected exposure.
• Keys may have route scopes, state and CORS allowlists, expiry dates and rate-limit profiles.
• A key may not be sold, transferred or shared with an unrelated party without written permission.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

You must not use the API to:

• represent an estimate as an official utility bill or guaranteed payable amount;
• remove or conceal material tariff limitations or disclosure fields;
• circumvent authentication, scopes, rate limits, state restrictions or CORS controls;
• probe, exploit, damage or interfere with the API or other clients;
• generate abusive traffic or repeated immediate retries after rate limiting;
• obtain protected evidence, credentials, server paths or non-public runtime data;
• support deceptive billing, fraudulent collections, impersonation or unlawful targeting;
• claim endorsement by a regulator, DISCOM, government body or PEI without permission;
• use the API for a high-stakes decision without suitable independent verification.

Reasonable caching is permitted where the client agreement allows it, provided release identifiers, effective dates and material disclosures remain attached to cached results.

5. Tariff data and calculations

PEI applies verified release controls and source traceability, but tariffs and related policies may be amended, replaced, clarified or applied differently by authorities or utilities.

You must decide whether a response is suitable for your use case. Consumer-facing applications must clearly label estimated amounts and preserve the API’s material exclusions.

Where stated by the response contract, money is calculated using integer paise. Your application remains responsible for display formatting, downstream calculations and user communication.

6. Rate limits and fair use

Each key has a configured per-minute limit and burst allowance. Limits may differ by client plan or written agreement.

• Respect rate-limit headers and Retry-After.
• Use bounded retries, caching and request deduplication where appropriate.
• PEI may temporarily reduce or suspend limits to protect service stability or address abuse.

7. Security and operational logging

PEI may log operational metadata required for security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, rate enforcement and service improvement. Dedicated API key plaintext is not intentionally written to request logs.

Clients must use HTTPS, secure credential storage and least-privilege scopes. Security reports must not include a live API key.

8. Availability and support

Unless a separate written service-level agreement applies, the API is provided without a guaranteed uptime, response time or uninterrupted availability commitment.

PEI may perform maintenance, deploy security controls or introduce versioned releases. Material API contract changes normally require a new version, updated documentation and a new regression/freeze process.

9. Commercial plans and payment

Pricing, included usage, overage treatment, billing frequency, taxes and payment terms are governed by the applicable order form, invoice or written agreement. Evaluation or internal access does not create an entitlement to continued production capacity.

10. Intellectual property

PEI retains rights in its API software, schemas, documentation, verification methods, branding and original data compilation. Source documents and third-party materials remain subject to their respective rights.

These terms provide a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use authorised API responses within the approved client application. No ownership is transferred.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The API is provided on an “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, PEI does not warrant that every response will be complete, current, uninterrupted or suitable for every billing, regulatory, commercial or consumer decision.

You remain responsible for your application, user disclosures, legal compliance, billing representations and independent verification where required.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, PEI will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, including loss of profit, revenue, goodwill, data or business opportunity. Additional liability terms may be set by a written client agreement.

12. Suspension and termination

PEI may disable, rotate, restrict or revoke a key where reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, non-payment, legal compliance, infrastructure protection or breach of these terms.

On termination, the affected key must be removed from active systems. Provisions concerning confidentiality, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and accrued payment obligations survive where applicable.

13. Changes to these terms

PEI may update these terms as the API and commercial model evolve. The version and effective date shown above identify the active public terms. Continued use after an update becomes effective constitutes acceptance, unless a separate written agreement provides otherwise.

These terms are governed by applicable laws of India. Mandatory statutory rights and jurisdiction rules continue to apply. A signed client agreement may specify additional dispute-resolution and venue terms.

This is an operational contract template and should be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before large-scale paid or enterprise onboarding.
